What We Are Wag'N About...

Wag'N offers pet parents and first responders the necessary gear, supplies and training to effectively mitigate, prepare and respond to emergencies that impact pet health and safety.

We love our pets and we want to keep them safe from any type of hurt. Of course that is the goal. Whether we can achieve that goal depends on variable factors: Are we willing, ready and do we know how?

At WagʼN, we aim to provide the best products and services available to make sure that the pets you love so dearly are cared for appropriately to prevent an unfortunate situation from becoming a full blown emergency.

Our branded products, WagʼN Pet Safety Gear, are an ever-growing collection of purposefully designed and crafted tools to help people and their pets go about their lifeʼs with peace of mind that they have the necessary tools and knowledge needed in case of an emergency.

The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina lead to the emergence of a new field in emergency management. Ines de Pablo, our CWO, is the creator and architect behind the concept of Pet Emergency Management Taking the emergency management cycle concepts of all-hazards mitigation, preparedness, response & recovery to the pet world to ensure we can you can help prevent, prepare & respond to pet health related emergencies.

Definitions and Critical Protocols Of An Effective Pet Emergency Management Plan

MITIGATION is about protection by prevention - knowing and avoiding unnecessary risks. Some pet incident mitigation steps are:
• Building a fence to keep pets from escaping and other wildlife from coming in
• Spay & Neuter your pets to mitigate certain types of canine cancer & pet over-population.
• Get Pet Insurance to help you cover the cost of immunizations, general and emergency veterinary care
• Learning about what might harm a pet (poisonous foods, plants, etc)
• [...]

PREPAREDNESS is about readiness. Making sure that you have all the tools, skills and plans in place to help you protect and respond to pet emergencies. Some examples are:
• Learning the skills of pet first aid and having a pet first aid kit
• Having a shelter-in-place and evacuation plan that includes all your pets
• Having & maintaining a pet evacuation kit per household pet with up-to-date immunization records (pet passports work best)
• Creating a Rover Respond'R Plan to ensure that your pets are taken care of should you become unable to temporarily care for them during an emergency.
• Getting Pet Alert Stickers to let the fire department known you have pets inside the residence
• Supporting your local fire department making sure they have Pet Oxygen Masks on their emergency vehicles (to complement the alert stickers and assist your pets on site)
• [...]

RESPONSE varies but greatly depends on the extend of implemented mitigation and preparedness measures you have taken. Examples include:
• Leave no pets behind
• Implement evacuation or shelter-in-place plan.
• Provide pet first aid if necessary.
• Report lost/stolen pets as soon as possible
• Getting your pets inside the house if shelter-in-place orders are given
• [...]

RECOVERY is the act of regaining or saving something lost. This stage depends on various factors. Some of which include
• Extend & nature of the emergency,
• Extend & nature of injuries/loss of life,
• Extend & nature of damage to both your personal property and your community;
• The relocation plans you put in place and utilized,
• Insurance on your personal property and pets,
• Effects of Post-Traumatic Stress on you, your family and/or your pets
• [...]

The cycles of emergency management as outlined here above will help you prevent anything from small emergencies (by learning that chocolate, raisins and Tic Tacs should not be fed to dogs) to keeping your pack safe during larger scale emergencies that may affect your community (such as hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, etc.)

We are Wag'N our tails off to make pet safety concepts all-encompassing, fun and educational to ensure you keep your pets Wag'N No Matter What!
