Wag’N Encourages Pet Parents To Be Their Pet’s 911 in April during Pet First Aid Month
Pet Safety Company equips pet parents with tools and knowledge essential during pet emergencies

Herndon, Virginia (March 11, 2010) – When a pet emergency happens, calling 911 is NOT an option. April is Pet First Aid Month and Wag’N Pet Safety Gear is working to encourage pet parents to plan ahead for possible pet emergencies with a properly equipped Wag’N Mayday™ Pet First Aid Kit and the training to care for an injured pet until the pet is transported to a local emergency veterinarian.

“Many pet parents consider pets to be members of the family, yet unfortunately don’t grasp that there is such a thing as pet first aid,” said Ines de Pablo, who holds a Masters Degree in Risk, Crisis and Emergency Management and is the Chief Wag’N Officer of Wag’N Pet Safety Gear. “Because there are little to no variances between the human and animal mechanisms of injury, pet parents—acting as their pet’s first responders—should to a minimum expect and be able to provide first aid for anything from bruises, burns, fractures, heat stoke and hyperthermia, to choking, cardio pulmonary and respiratory distress. Having the right tools on hand, and enough knowledge about how to help an injured pet, is extremely important until the pet parent is able to get the injured animal to the veterinarian.”

Wag’N Mayday™ Pet First Aid Kits are fashionable, easy-to-carry kits packed with essential wound care supplies. These fashionable yet rugged kits come in two sizes and give pet parents the tools essential for handling pet emergencies.

Weighing only seven ounces, The Skinny Mayday™ Pet First Aid Kit (MSRP $18.95) is very light and comes with a bone shaped karabiner to clip to a purse or belt loop. It has 35 pieces of basic pet first aid items and is 5.5”W x 5.5”H x 2” thick. This kit is primarily for dogs and cats but can also be used for ferrets, rabbits and other little critters.

The larger Well-Fed Mayday™ Pet First Aid Kit (MSRP $45.00) was designed for the pet that does more adventurous physical activity with their pet parent and are more likely to get in some type of physical trouble (running, hiking, hunting or traveling). The 75 piece kit weighs 1 pound, 8.2 ounces, and comes with a bone shaped karabiner and The Tick Key® to effectively and non-evasively remove ticks from pets. With each Pet First Aid Kit sold, Wag’N donates part of the proceeds to the Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign.

DePablo, who offers pet first aid and pet safety classes and workshops to individuals and first responders, also encourages pet parents to carry a record of their pets’ medical history, proof of ownership and vaccinations, a photo of their pet and emergency contact numbers. A Wag’N Pet Passport is a good solution to keep all of this information together in one place.
